The prototypical auxiliary in Ancient Greek is eimí “to be”, which is involved in some participial periphrases conveying aspectual value and variously interacting with the synthetic forms within the inflectional paradigm. However, many other verbs are involved in the Greek periphrastic constructions, although their status as auxiliaries is still a matter of debate. Resent research in grammaticalization allows to describe the entire range of such verbs in prototypical terms, that is, as a coherent category which includes more central and peripheral, i.e. less grammaticalized members.

Di cosa parlavano veramente i Greci e i Romani quando si riferivano a quelli che noi chiamiamo oggi "ibridi"? Generare in comune si configura come un viaggio nelle teorie della riproduzione del mondo antico, per arrivare a marcare una serie di differenze antropologiche fra "Noi" e "Loro" attraverso le quali si tenta di riorientare il dibattito bioetico contemporaneo. The label ‘intensifiers’ (or ‘emphatics’) groups together words, widely attested crosslinguistically (e.g. Eng. x-self, Germ. selbst, Ital. stesso, Lat. ipse, Japanese zisin and zibun, Mandarin zı j ĭetc.), whose main function is to signal some sort of emphasis or focus with respect to a nominal head they are adjoined to in the sentence, as in The author herself will present the book. The paper is a study of the main ideas on language in ancient Greek thought (from Homer to Aristotle) with a particular focus on the relationship between truth and efficacy.
On deictic motion verbs in Homeric Greek

This paper investigates the basic motion verbs ‘go’ and ‘come’ in Homeric Greek. In particular, it aims to examinewhether the deictic component,which is usually ascribed to the inherent semantic meaning of these verbs cross–linguistically, has to be considered as a prototypical semantic property of εἶμι ‘go’ and βαίνω ‘step; go; come’. These latter can indeed take a deictic interpretation at a pragmatic, syntactic or discourse level, but I will show how the deictic component is not inherently associated with their lexical semantics.
